The spark What gave me the idea?
This one is personal.
After my adult ADHD and autism diagnoses, I became increasingly interested in why so many tools designed to help people still seemed to expect everyone to work in the same way.
The same routines. The same productivity expectations. The same assumptions about motivation and capacity.
The problem What was I trying to solve?
It’s for people with a late diagnosis who were handed a label and a waiting list, and for anyone masking their way through burnout with nowhere to put it all.
The experiment What did I build?
The Comfortably Chaotic Companion began as an experiment in neurodivergent-first support.
A calmer, lower-pressure space shaped by lived experience and designed with executive dysfunction, overwhelm and different ways of thinking in mind.
It’s not about fixing yourself. It’s about supporting the self that already exists, even on the hard days.
What it set out to include
- The Feelery: gentle emotional check-ins, with an emotion wheel, optional journaling and an “I don’t know” button
- Burnout Central: spot early signs of burnout, or switch on Burnout Mode for a softer, low-effort version of the app
- Diagnosis Prep Kit: symptom trackers, GP letter templates and reflection prompts to help you prepare for ADHD, autism or AuDHD assessments
- AI emotional support (beta): a gentle AI companion for check-ins, overwhelm and reflection
The learning What did it teach me?
It taught me about accessibility, product thinking and the difference between designing something that looks helpful and designing something around actual human needs.
Sometimes a project doesn’t need to be constantly evolving to have taught you something valuable.
The current reality Where the project stands.
I built the original app in 2025, and it’s still live today.
I haven’t actively developed it further since then, but it remains an important part of my journey.
This is a non-clinical support prototype, not a replacement for professional mental health support.
Let’s talk
Let’s make AI useful.
If you’re exploring AI, struggling to work out where to begin, or realising your organisation needs stronger governance around how AI is already being used, let’s talk. You don’t need a finished brief.
